Today I had to run to the store to get some milk..

There was a older lady trying to get to the store.. poor thing no one would stop to help her. I went inside and got one of those wheelchairs and brought it out to her.
She was so happy and thank me a million times.

I pushed her inside and when she got inside. She said I will wait by the door for my daugther.  I stood there and talk to her.

She made a point that had me do some  thinking while I was shopping..

She said getting old isn't fun.  So many aches and pains.  Well I said to her I rather get old then do the other thing so young.. she agree..

She then ask me if I wish I could go back any age and do it all over again. I thought for a second or two and said no not really.
There are pro's and cons to every age..

Her daughter came a few minutes later I wish her Good Day and told her to go enjoy life and take what we have and be happy with it.

You know that is so true.. we should be happy with what we have.  I know its very common to always want what we don't have.

But, a few years ago when I get on my pity party wagon I sat  for a few minutes thinking of what I have and look around and see others that don't have as much and think how lucky I am..

Yea, once in awhile we all have those days we just want to throw away or not get out of bed. But, when you have those days think of those who really can't get out of bed with out help. Think how lucky you are.

While fall is coming here before us. That means there are tons of changes too.

So, many changes here at the Wolf House.  Need to sit back and think this through good and make sure its the right the thing for us to do.

Sometimes changes are good and better for all around us but sometimes you have to think what happens in the end is it worth it..

Its not as easy as the leave changing colors, falling and you rack them up and wait for the first snow fall.

Theres alot of things, people and things in the way you have to think of..

FRIDAY THE 13TH - how did Friday the thirteenth become such an unlucky day?
fear of Friday the 13th is rooted in ancient, separate bad-luck associations with the number 13 and the day Friday. The two unlucky entities combine to make one super unlucky day.
There is a Norse myth about 12 gods having a dinner party at Valhalla, their heaven. In walked the uninvited 13th guest, the mischievous Loki. Once there, Loki arranged for Hoder, the blind god of darkness, to shoot Balder the Beautiful, the god of joy and gladness, with a mistletoe-tipped arrow. Balder died and the Earth got dark. The whole Earth mourned.
There is a Biblical reference to the unlucky number 13. Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest to the Last Supper.
A particularly bad Friday the 13th occurred in the middle ages. On a Friday the 13th in 1306, King Philip of France arrested the revered Knights Templar and began torturing them, marking the occasion as a day of evil.
In ancient Rome, witches reportedly gathered in groups of 12. The 13th was believed to be the devil.
Both Friday and the number 13 were once closely associated with capital punishment. In British tradition, Friday was the conventional day for public hangings, and there were supposedly 13 steps leading up to the noose.
It is traditionally believed that Eve tempted Adam with the apple on a Friday. Tradition also has it that the Flood in the Bible, the confusion at the Tower of Babel, and the death of Jesus Christ all took place on Friday.
Numerologists consider 12 a "complete" number. There are 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 tribes of Israel, and 12 apostles of Jesus. In exceeding 12 by 1, 13's association with bad luck has to do with just being a little beyond completeness.
FRIDAY THE 13TH - how is fear of the number thirteen demonstarted?
More than 80 percent of high-rises lack a 13th floor.
Many airports skip the 13th gate.
Airplanes have no 13th aisle.
Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room number 13.
Italians omit the number 13 from their national lottery.
On streets in Florence, Italy, the house between number 12 and 14 is addressed as 12 and a half.
Many cities do not have a 13th Street or a 13th Avenue
In France, socialites known as the quatorziens (fourteeners) once made themselves available as 14th guests to keep a dinner party from an unlucky fate.
Many triskaidekaphobes, as those who fear the unlucky integer are known, point to the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13.
If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil's luck . Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo all have 13 letters in their names.
FROG
A frog brings good luck to the house it enters.
The dried body of a frog worn in a silk bag around the neck averts epilepsy and other fits.
GOOD FRIDAY
(The Friday before Easter)
A child born on Good Friday and baptized on Easter Sunday has a gift of healing. If a boy, he should go into the ministry.
Cut your hair on Good Friday to prevent headaches in the year to come
A person who dies on Good Friday will go right to heaven.
Shed no blood on Good Friday, work no wood, hammer no nail.
HAIR
Pulling out a gray or white hair will cause ten more to grow in its place.
HAND
If the palm of your right hand itches it means you will soon be getting money.
If the palm of your left hand itches it means you will soon be paying out money.
HORSESHOE
A horseshoe, hung above the doorway, will bring good luck to a home. In most of Europe protective horseshoes are placed in a downward facing position, but in some parts of Ireland and Britain people believe that the shoes must be turned upward or "the luck will run out."
A horseshoe hung in the bedroom will keep nightmares away.
ITCH
If your nose itches you will soon be kissed by a fool.
If your nose itches
Your mouth is in danger.
You'll kiss a fool,
And meet a stranger.
Rub an itch to wood
It will come to good.
IVY
Ivy growing on a house protects the inhabitants from witchcraft and evil.
KNIFE
A knife as a gift from a lover means that the love will soon end.
A knife placed under the bed during childbirth will ease the pain of labor.
If a friend gives you a knife, you should give him a coin, or your friendship will soon be broken.
It will cause a quarrel if knives are crossed at the table.
It is bad luck to close a pocket knife unless you were the one who opened it.
Knife falls, gentleman calls;
Fork falls, lady calls;
Spoon falls, baby calls.
KNITTING
It's bad luck to leave a project unfinished. The intended recepient will get bad luck from the unfinished item.
Stabbing your needles though your yarn balls brings bad luck to anyone who wears something made from that yarn.
Don't knit a pair of socks for your boyfriend or he'll walk away from you.
If you knit one of your own hairs into a garment, it will bind the recipient to you.
Knitting for children you may have in the future, but before you are pregnant, is bad luck (it may prevent one from getting pregnant, or bring ill health to the baby).
LADDER
It is bad luck to walk under a ladder.
LADYBUG
If a young girl catches a ladybug and then releases it, the direction in which it flies away will be the direction from which her future husband will come.
It is bad luck to kill a ladybug.
Ladybug, ladybug, fly away home.
Your house is on fire,
Your children all roam.
LEAF
If you catch a falling leaf on the first day of autumn you will not catch a cold all winter.
LETTUCE
Lettuce is believed to have magical and healing properties, including the power to arouse love and counteract the effects of wine.
Lettuce promotes child bearing if eaten by young women, and certain types of salad can bring on labor in pregnant women.
LIE
Cross my heart and hope to die,
Cut my throat if I tell a lie.
LIZARD
To dream of a lizard is a sign that you have a secret enemy.

I found a penny today and I made me think of this.

Baking!

The farmers market are getting good..   Went the other day got some zucchini for a good prices.

Came home and made about 6 loaves of zucchini bread.   This is the recipe I used. Turned out great.

Zucchini Bread Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3 cups grated fresh zucchini
  • 2/3 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • Pinch salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1 cup dried cranberries or raisins (optional)

Method

1 Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Mix in the grated zucchini and then the melted butter. Sprinkle baking soda and salt over the mixture and mix in. Add the flour, a third at a time. Sprinkle in the cinnamon and nutmeg and mix. Fold in the nuts and dried cranberries or raisins if using.
2 Divide the batter equally between 2 buttered 5 by 9 inch loaf pans. Bake for 1 hour (check for doneness at 50 minutes) or until a wooden pick inserted in to the center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire racks to cool thoroughly.
Makes 2 loaves.

Then for the first time last night we try Fried Zucchini.  Oh My Stars that is wonderful. I think this is what I am making for next few nights till I get my full. LOL

This is the recipe we found from allrecipes and we loved:

Ingredients
  • 2 zucchini, quartered and sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced into rings
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Directions

  1. Place zucchini and onions in a medium bowl and mix together.
  2. In a small bowl mix flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
  3. Pour dry mixture over zucchini/onion mixture, cover bowl and shake well. Let mixture sit for about 30 minutes; a batter will form on the vegetables.
  4. In a medium skillet heat oil over medium heat. When oil is hot add breaded vegetables and fry, turning to brown evenly.

Now I need to go searching to see what else we can make with zucchini.....

Cancer!

I dislike the word cancer so much to me its a very bad word.

I wish there was a way that no one would ever get cancer.  Cancer is a tough disease to fight and get through.

I had my first experiment with cancer in 1990.  Wolf Daddy came home saying he had this big lump under his arm and ask me if it was normal I took a look at it and said no we are going to doctor in morning.

Off to doctor we went first they thought it was just a cold settle in his lymph nodes.. but, they wanted him to go to another doctor that day to be sure. Off we went they thought it was a cold in the lymph nodes too. But, said surgery should be done soon to remove it so he wasn't so uncomfortable.

It was around Thanksgiving and the doctor said he could wait till after the holidays to have it done. But, something in the back of mine keep saying no, no don't wait make them do it now.
Wolf Daddy said ok.  I looked at him and said no lets get it done. I ask the doctor when are you doing surgery next he said in morning I said good we will be there.  I remember the look on the doctors and Wolf Daddy's face they are like ok.  if that's what you want then it will be done.

Well the next morning we got up and went. Thinking it was nothing bad we both were in good mood that day.  Wolf Daddy was telling jokes all the way down to the operating table.

I went to the waiting room and waited. Not long after that they came to me and told me that Daddy Wolf had cancer.  I thought I was going to faint. I remember looking at them with a blank look.. They told me they were going to finish up with him, sent the lump to be tested and they wanted to start chemo. right away, that same day. I said ok, lets get it going.

I then went to bathroom got some cold water ran it over my face and said Lord why?  You can't do this to me. We were trying to start a family.

Andy, went through treatments and did good.

Things were looking up.  We then had two wonderful Wolf Daughters that we are so proud of. They are our pride and joy. We try so hard and so long to have them.

Then in 1994 two months after I gave birth to youngest Wolf Daughter,  Wolf Daddy got sick again this time they thought he had the flu.  So, they were treating him with that but he wasn't getting any better.   So off we went to the doctor for more test.

I waited in the waiting room with the Wolf Daughters and they came and got me and told me once again he had cancer.  I want to cry my eyes out and scream and yell why?  We have two beautiful young children that need him. They were only 2 years old  and 2 months how could you do this to us again.

But, I knew I couldn't I had to hold it in, be strong for the Wolf Daughters and Daddy Wolf who was one sick man.

They started him on Chemo right then and there. On top of it all it was Valentine's Day.  Then they were going to do radiation on him too. They were going to try and bite this in the butt good this time.

Well the only other thing that went through my mind was I needed to be strong and step up to the plate more I had a sick husband and two very young children that needed me.

Got home that night after all the treatments put the girls and husband to bed.  I went outside and took a small walk and talk to God and told him I didn't believe in him anymore. Why was he doing this to me.  I wasn't strong enough to raise these to young children alone.  I cried it seem like for hours that night.

Got up the next morning and got the girls in snow suit and off we went to the doctor for more treatments.  For the next 6 months that was our highlight of the day taking daddy to doctor for treatments and waiting with while he went through it.  Oldest Wolf Daughter would sit on his lap and watch tv while they were giving him Chemo IV treatments.  Usually took anywhere from hour and half to two hours.

Things got better over time and now daddy wolf is going on 18 years of cancer free. But, I do watch him like a hawk.  Every time he gets sick I just want to cry and my mind does all these bad things.  I was hoping with time I would get better, but no I am not.

Then in 2002 his sister came down with brain cancer.  Wow not again I thought. We moved up to take care of her as she had a stroke and could no longer take care of herself.  She did not want to go to nursing home. We took care of her for 2 years before the Lord called her home.  R.I.P. Joan we miss you so much.  Your laugh was wonderful .  We now know you are in a better place.  At the time we didn't think so but now we do.

Oldest Wolf Daughter was in third grade at the time and she was so in to helping her Auntie one day she look at me and said mommy. Auntie is dying isn't she. I said yes honey she is. She said its like watching a snowman melt slowly.  I just cried and cried and held her and told her that Auntie would go to a better place and have no pain.

Then about a week ago my sister was told she had thyroid cancer.  She had surgery and is thinking about treatments. I do hope she stops smoking.

But, it seems no matter where you turn someone has cancer or been through. Now you see why I hate the word.

School Day!

Today we decide to change things around and take our work outside.

Nice cool day in the mountains so we grab our books, drink and blanket and outside to the front yard we went.

We are reading a wonderful story together so it was nice to lay outside and look up at the sky while Wolf Daugther was reading.

Sometimes you can get alot of work done laying there and looking up and thinking...

The $50 Lesson

Recently, while I was working in the flower beds in the front yard, my neighbors stopped to chat as they returned home from walking their dog. During our friendly conversation, I asked their little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, "If you were Pres
ident what would be the first thing you would do?" She replied... "I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people." Her parents beamed with pride! "Wow...what a worthy goal!" I said. "But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that!" I told her. "What do you mean?" she replied. So I told her, "You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and trim my hedge, and I'll pay you $50. Then you can go over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house." She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50?" I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party." Her parents aren't speaking to me anymore.

Is Life Difficult!

I was ask this question the other day.

Why is life so difficult?
Well I been told so many times that life is only as difficult as you make it..
now I don't really know about that one..

Sometimes we are handed things on our lap that we have to deal with and its not a bed of roses.

But, we know we have no choice but to handle it and do it.  Is it going to be hard, yes more then likely it will be..

We are so set in our ways that one little change seems like a mountain to move for us...

How do we handle it, I say the best you can with a big smile if you can and keep pushing up that mountain there is a top and once you get there you will be so happy.

Life is not all peachy and roses.   Life does hand us different things all the time.

Sometimes I ask why? Then when I am at the top of the mountain I see why.. you wanted to make me stronger and didn't want my life boring any more..

Yes, life would be boring if we didn't have changes.. yes changes are scary and hard. But, with trust and support we can get through anything.. one step at  a time..

So, keep walking up that mountain.. move those rocks and smile once you get to the top and say we did it.

What's next?

Everyday is something new and different...

My Saying!

I made this saying up along time when life was a little rough for me.  Now when it gets rough I just look at this saying read it, sometimes I cry too.

You know life isn't fair never has been.  But, we have to keep going.

Sometimes we are handed a ball that is hard other times we are given a ball that is soft which ever one we are given we have to keep going..

Yes, some days are hard, but in the end its worth it.

Here's my saying:

Sometimes the mountain is high and hard to climb.
There maybe a stone or two to move along the way.
Remember no stone is to hard or to heavy to move, it
just may take awhile to get it to move, but it can be done.

I been told so many times I need to sit and write a book, I have thought about it but don't know where to start.
So, much has happen in my life I sit and think about it and think wow all that.

One thing I know for sure is it made me stronger.

Time to give up some chores!

Sometimes its time to hand over some chores to others...

Some people don't like to washing clothes, or dishes and they hand that over to others to help.

Here at Wolf Bay High we don't like mowing the lawn so we decide we were going to give it up to someone who knew alot more about taking care of the lawn and go green...

No we didn't give it to a goat:

or to a lawn service people:

We gave it our friend Bambi who comes every night to visit and cut our grass:

She is doing a wonderful job..  we are hoping she will invite some of her friends to help her out. There is alot to do..
Thanks Bambi for all your hard work.. you are very thoughtful.

Just a Mother/Daughter Day!

Every now and then you need to throw in the towel :

And say we are having a mother/daughter day we are going shopping and checking out the area.

Not looking for anything important just need to have a little time away from the school books and house work for awhile.

So, off we go to have a little fun and see what we can find and look at all the new stores and try to get one of our computers fix too.
I don't know what we ever did without them.. They are are brains now...

Where is the cool weather?

Went walking up the mountains to see if I could find the cool weather and it wasn't there.

I wonder where it is and who is keeping it.

These temps. are so hot and its so dry out here we need rain before more fires come our way.

Washed the truck today and clean the house.. then went for a hike in the mountains then came and took the girls to have ice cream...  it was so good

Then had pizza for supper just one of those lazy days..

Wow! Sorry for the long time away!

Can't believe its Thursday already.. well that is good too. The week almost done time for the week end and few days closer to fall... come on fall.

We moved to the mountains to get some cool air and we are getting high 90s what is wrong with the picture...

Been busy trying to get things in order and doing school with youngest Wolf Daughter we are moving right along in the subject this time.. they are going well.

Still can't believe in November she will be done and I will no longer be a homeschool  Wolf Mom but a Wolf Mom to two college girls..

You know when I brought them Wolf Daughters home from the hospital I remember signing all these papers and bring all these books home on caring and doing this and doing that. But, I still don't recall a book that says Caution:  Children Grow Fast Enjoy!

Maybe I need to write a book on that one!
